“Leave or Remain?” That is the question for British voters Thursday. This is quite an amazing thing — to be allowed to vote over such an important matter. I watched in full the BBC debate last night in order to be an informed voter. The debate was one of the most energized and well carried out debates I’ve ever seen. This to me, this is democracy at its best.
Of course, being a modern debate in the 21st century, there was no mention of God. Does anyone wonder, what does God think about this matter? Do Christians themselves even think about this? Does God have an opinion? Does this vote even register on his radar for his kingdom purposes?
We take it for granted when reading our bible that God is involved in matters like this. Take for instance the book of Esther. This is the only book in the bible that does not mention God, yet we see him working throughout the book, in the shadows so to speak. He is arranging events in an amazing way to protect his people Israel. He is active and involved on every page of that moving story.
I was recently reading in 1 Kings 22 about King Ahab asking King Jehoshaphat if he would go to war with him against the Arameans. They decided together to go to war, but at the last minute King Jehoshaphat said, “But first let’s find out what the Lord says.” (1 Kings 22:5) When a prophet named Micaiah was found he gave the word of the Lord — if you go to war Ahab will be killed and you will be defeated. As it turned out, they ignored the warning and went to war. Ahab was dead before the end of the day! God’s word mattered. He had an opinion, a strong opinion.
Back to the referendum Thursday. Does God have a view on this matter? In November 2015 a man of God in England, David Noakes published a word he believes came from God. It was published in the Issachar Ministries newsletter. Only time will tell, of course, whether Mr. Noakes heard correctly, but if he did, we know that God has an opinion on this vote. Here in part is Noakes word:
“I warn you now that the European institution will not repent, even though I bring disaster and destruction upon it. I urge you, O Britain still beloved by Me for the sake of your godly forefathers, come out of her, so that you may not be caught up in that same destruction, for I am even now arising in judgment to bring to nothing what she has sought to achieve. If you will separate yourself from her declared rejection of God, I will have mercy upon you and restore my hand of protection; and I will use you once again to bring light to many lost in the darkness which is now steadily increasing.”
God is alive and active on planet earth. He is involved in world affairs and in the affairs of your life. We as believers need to be constantly reminded that we can view life on two levels — the level of the natural and the level of the spiritual. Don’t only look at the natural. Seek God to know what he is doing and saying in your daily life. What is he saying? What are his answers? He loves you and wants to be involved in every aspect of your life. Ask him. Follow him.
